Eid decorations

The windows and many areas of the house were decorated with crytalized ka’bas and suncatchers that had the ka’ba in the middle as well

In Quran class we made Ka’ba sun catchers by mixing elmer glue with water and apply it to colorful tissue paper right onto the see-thru covers of wet cat food LOL:

In a fun science experiment we made crystalized ka’bas by forming pipe cleaners into a cube the shape of the ka’ba then leaving it over night in a Borax solution that is way to saturated

I thought it would be tough to try to slip back into routine of home education after health issues and then eid. Who says playing with eid gifts does not count as education? Lincoln logs, blocks, and tangrams, yes please. We are really easing back into the swing of things. Our pace is slow but so much ground is being covered. This is why i love home educating. We can all care for each others’ states of being and cater our education around life and it’s happenings. We are stronger as a family i hope without compromising what we learn precisly because so much time is saved when you home school as opposed to going to school. I read somewhere that most of the school day is wasted time and only less than 10 percent of it is active learning. Alhemdulilah i am priviliged to be able to spend time with my children the way we do.

Last hand made eid gift for baba

I gifted a sunglasses and a belt. But the promised hand made toque was finished in the nick of time. Last day of eid my gift to baba was finished as promised. The original men’s ribbed crochet hat pattern can be found here:

baba’s handmade eid gifts

from the girls who searched for a heart shaped heart and painted it themselves with another heart lol and then picked the words out themselves that they wanted on there. Especially Tuitty Fruity she was adament those two words had to be it.

I loved this little project. We did another one for Jiddo and for a couple of family friends. All you need is a rock that is big enough and has a flat side or two in order to be a good paper weight. You paint it, get some rub-on words from the scrapbooking section of any art store. Transfer them on the rock. You could seal it with modge podge or any clear sealer if you like. I didn’t seal it.

Lip balm> now this was an experiment of many different recipes. The one that did work for us in the end was this:

about 2 Tablespoons of finely grated beeswax, 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of cocobutter, 1 table spoon coconut oil, 1/4 cup sweet almond oil, a few drops of tea tree essential oil

Islamic months in prep for Thul Hijjah

I printed and laminated the page found at raisingmuslims blog in her ramadan lapbook. we added scotch tape to the back of each flap so that we may remove them later to make a game out of it once they know them well enough inshaAllah. For now, I played “Months in Islam” nasheed for them over and over again and we pointed at each flap and did a little dance with it. They pretty much have it comitted to memory now. Next i hope to remove the flaps and have them put them in proper order themselves.

I’ve also printed out and laminated the lunar phases calendar for this month and put it up by our regular calendar so they can see the changes in the moon as the days pass.

On a side note: as Muffin was memorizing the song she kept saying Rabee’ul arnab instead of rabee’ alawal. Ie. the spring of the rabbit as opposed to the first spring.

We picked this book up last year and i had thought it was just too complicated for them at the time. I think I might have been mistaken. This is not a paid review in any way obviously. But really I was very impressed by this book. It had a really fun layout, attached ink pads, clear instructions for how you can add your finger/thumb print into a picture of something else. I also liked the fact that it takes into consid as weration the different sizes of finger prints. Madammes enjoyed it. I think it was a good activity to lift us up and give them a good confidence boost on a day when we all woke up on the wrong side of the bed and the weather wasn’t cooperating.
